;Optional parameters:
* ''place'' may supplement ''created'' to separate date from location found/created.
* ''period'' may be added to describe the era or culture (such as "Greco-Roman").
* ''registration'' distinguishes the unique database or full catalogue number from a collection ID or historic/commonly used ID.
* ''height'', ''width'', ''depth'' and ''weight'' are alternatives to using the generic ''size''. If several dimensions are needed it is recommended to use ''size'', to avoid creating an overly complex infobox, by separating dimensions with <nowiki><br></nowiki>, e.g. <code><nowiki>size = height:6cm<br>width:2cm<br>thickness:0.4cm</nowiki></code>.

===English variation===
"artifact" is a US spelling. The UK spelling is "artefact" and {{tl|Infobox artefact}} may be used as a valid alternative.
